Overseeing integrated, phased investigations of contaminated sites and landfills

In conjunction with our contaminated land and geotechnical team, we provide an integrated, phased site investigation of contaminated and landfill land from the initial Phase 1 desk study and geophysical survey through to the intrusive investigation, risk assessment and remedial works. A range of geophysical techniques is appropriate to investigate the geometry and characteristics of landfills and contaminated land, and their application can be tailored to the specifics of a particular site.

Landfill mapping

Landfill waste and leachate typically constitute electrically conductive targets. Surface mapping of subsurface conductivity or resistivity can delineate landfill boundaries and associated infrastructure. Vertical profiling (or imaging) produces cross sections from which it is possible to infer waste depth and zones of potential leachate migration.

Contaminated ground

The use of geophysical techniques is an invaluable tool in the investigation of contaminated sites and can be used as rapid site-wide reconnaissance to highlight areas of potential contamination.
