The RSK Geophysics team has been putting cutting-edge technology to the test.
Last week, our field crew trialled a new MEMS gravimeter from Silicon Microgravity, comparing its performance against our conventional gravity meter.
The trial formed part of our ongoing programme to enhance geophysical survey techniques, supporting a wide range of site investigation and ground risk assessment projects. Microgravity surveys are a valuable, non-intrusive method for detecting hidden subsurface voids, changes in density, or buried structures — often supporting infrastructure and brownfield development where safety, accuracy, and minimal disruption are essential.
The MEMS gravimeter promises to make this process faster and more efficient, potentially allowing us to capture 50–60 data points per day. It represents another step in RSK’s commitment to exploring innovative technologies that improve data quality, site efficiency, and sustainable investigation practices.
